Helps with explaining the whys, though not used to deny your experience or tell you how to feel or think.
You share your experience and story with me, and I share what I hear from it and how I see it. This is done through a strengths-based lens yet allows space to hold and validate the hard times and difficult feelings.
We use this to attune and connect via your brain. It's not just about accessing gratitude (though we can do that). It's about accessing in general.
This is where the body comes in. You don't have to already be in-tune with your body to engage in it. I may start this approach by noticing expressions, teaching grounding exercises, asking you to notice. We may even take an image that comes up in your mind about an emotion and act it out.
This is used for those who may have experienced adversity in childhood, use compartmentalization, or may understand there are so many components/truths to any given experience or situation.
Used with both the neurodiverse (Autism, ADHD, etc.) and neurotypical populations. EMDR is used in session, with your consent, when you feel the need to address larger internal hurdles such as phobias or trauma(s) (also known as PTSD or C-PTSD).
Though these sessions are done in parks or can be done in an inside setting (like a mall). These help the mind and body work together to get to the heart of the matter while also keeping present. They are less private, in that these happen in a public setting. They are done during the day and usually when it is not busy or packed with people. There is a specific wavier that needs to be signed
